Why Americanism Matters To The Child of God
Pastor David Green
Americanism is a noun that is defined as “1. A custom, trait, or tradition originating in the United States. 2. A word, phrase, or idiom characteristic of English as it is spoken in the United States. 3. Allegiance to the United States and its customs and institutions”
Sometimes the word patriotism gets thrown around, but there is confusion with that term, since some folks think patriotism is the same as nationalism. There is a difference.
Patriotism is a love for one's country and a loyalty to that country. Nationalism is the promotion of one's own nation and government regardless of moral considerations. True patriots do not always defend the actions of their rulers. I consider myself a patriot of America, but I will guard myself from becoming a nationalist. I love my country but I do not always agree with my government...
Americanism is allegiance to American fundamentals which may or may not include current policy. I can be patriotic and not support, for example, abortion.
Americanism matters because God's Word sets the standards for government.
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.” (Romans 13:1-7)
The Bible is the standard for all things and government is no exception. The American form of government, a Constitutional Republic is the absolute best form of government that falls into these standards. From a Biblical point of view, it is the most Biblical form of government among men.
Americanism matters because I am the protector of my family
“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” (1 Timothy 5:8)
Men are to provide for their own families! One of the provisions required scripturally is protection. I am to protect my family from the enemy wherever he is and however he may show himself. History has shown that multitudes of people have died at the hands of tyrants and I will do my part to prevent my children having to face the tyrants heavy hand.
Americanism matters because our freedoms do come from God.
“Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)
This is the land of the free. Folks, this was no accident. Our freedoms were not granted by the government. In fact, because government was limited, and did not infringe on our rights and freedoms we have become a mighty nation in the earth – the envy of the world.
Americanism matters because with liberty comes responsibility.
“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.” (Galatians 5:13)
We can show love for the brethren many ways. One such way is by standing for life, liberty and the persuit of happiness – those unalianible rights which come from our Creator understanding of course that liberty – Biblical American liberty – does not mean freedom to do whatever. Freedom without restraint is wrong, sinful, and certainly not the traditional American way.
Americanism matters because at its root, this is a spiritual battle.
“And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.” (Revelation 13:11-18)
We are, at this moment, rapidly moving toward a one-world government system. And the end result is shown here. We may not be able to stop it, but I do believe we can “slow it down.” Let me explain. The Scriptures are very plain as to when the Antichrist will rise to power:
“Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12)
The Antichrist will not come to full power until after the rapture! But search all of Scirpture, and we are not told when the world will fall into a one-world dictatorship. I was always under the assumption it would be when Antichrist comes to power, but the Bible is not clear on this. In fact, there have been different movements through history whereby men have desired world rule, starting way back yonder in Genesis:
“And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” (Genesis 11:1-4)
Nimrod wanted to make a name for himself and people. Of course, God intervened there and prevented it from happening.
But history has shown various groups who in some shape or form wanted world domination.
Here is but a partial list:
“Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.” (1 John 2:18)
These groups who have in the past or are now conspiring to take over the world have a couple of things in common, primarily these two:
HATRED OF GOD'S WORD
ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT
Since the formation of the USA as a power full of free citizens to be reckoned with, these groups have sought to destroy America since we are an obstacle to world domination. (Pay close attention to the United Nations and how they really feel about America.....)
Since this country is not in Bible prophesy and a worldwide government is, I do believe that this country will fall before a world wide government is set up. And while I know it is inevitable, I will fight to uphold Americanism for as long as I am alive.
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” (Psalms 33:12)
The United States of America has been a blessed nation and we can see God's hand working directly or indirectly in many ways. We are at a cross-roads in America, and I believe we have started down the wrong path and we cannot expect the blessings of God here forever as long as we are going in the wrong direction.
In this message I hope I have presented some good insight as to why I love this country and why I believe she is worth saving. When America falls, let it be said that it was God's will; but don't let it be said it was because her Christian citizens were apathetic and did not care.
“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” (Psalms 9:17)
